I am sitting typing on my cousin Lydia and her husband Gerjon's computer which they are kindly letting me use. The computers at the library are very good, but they don't allow you to put photos on and I don't want to ask the librarian if I can use the computer in their office every few days! I have so much I have seen already so be prepared for a long blog!! Please remember I'm trying to think of what would also interest my kids and Steve and they are all interested in different things!!
First some information about the flights we went on. From Perth to KL (Malaysia) on Malaysian Airlines took 5 hours to fly 4272km. On the planes you can check out some information about the flight if you press the right button for your personal little TV (you can also watch movies and play games). One time we were 12km above the ground (that is from our house all the way to Albany!!) and we were going 820km/hour (the most our car usually goes is 120km/hour).
We had 1 hour wait in KL which by the time we walked to the right spot to depart again, the time was nearly up. It is a very big airport, quite new and it has a train going through the middle!
We then went on a KLM plane from KL to Amsterdam which took 12 hours to go 10400km. Some of the information for that flight which I saw was that we were 10.3 km above the ground and we were going at a speed of 967km/hr. The temperature outside was sometimes -54 degrees celsius.
Maddi was so good on the plane - she slept lots and hardly whinged. And now, a few days later, she is still happy and it doesn't bother her at all having all these strange faces looking at her and strangers giving her cuddles. Everyone seems to think she is very cute. Here is a cute photo of her in the bath again :
When we finally got to Schiphol at 11.39am (Australian time) 5.39am (Holland time) there was family waiting for us : Oma, Oom Roel (Dad's brother), Tante Geke, John, Berdien, Alexander (Berdien's boyfriend) and Oom Henk (Dad's brother). They had gotten up at 3am in the morning to come and pick us up! (it's about a two hour drive). Oma hadn't even slept the night before!
They drove us to Oom Eg (Dad's brother) and Tante Herma's house where Tante Herma and Helma (their son Arjan's wife) were waiting for us with delicious soup and also buns with either salted fish and onions or warm knakworst on them (of course I chose a fish one first!)
We got to Oma's after that and settled in a bit. They had decorated her house to welcome us! I tried to have a sleep, but Maddi decided to wake up from hers!
